At-Home Teeth Whitening Procedures

If you have yellowed or stained teeth, consider undergoing teeth whitening procedures. While you can visit a dental office to get brighter and whiter teeth, you can also try a few things at home. These are all easy to follow, and for many people, they can transform the appearance of teeth.

The top teeth whitening procedures

When searching for at-home teeth whitening procedures, the goal is to find methods that whiten without causing damage. Not only do the following procedures help teeth look better, but they also promote good oral health.

A concoction of hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice and baking soda

Considering that all three of these help with teeth whitening, it makes sense to combine them. An individual would start by mixing equal parts of hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice and baking soda. The next step involves placing a glob of this mixture on top of the toothpaste used for brushing. For anyone with sensitive teeth, they should follow this procedure just once a week for about a month. The goal is to eventually brush teeth this way two to three times per week.

Turmeric powder

Some people feel nervous about using turmeric as an at-home teeth whitening solution. This spice has a bold yellow color that tends to stain. However, dipping a wet toothbrush into a small amount of turmeric and brushing it on can lead to brighter teeth. Afterward, people need to brush with their usual toothpaste product. The anti-bacterial and antioxidants in turmeric whiten teeth and promote a healthy mouth.

Teeth whitening with activated charcoal

Activated charcoal has become such a popular at-home teeth whitening remedy that many grocery stores and drugstores sell it. Otherwise, people can order capsules or powder online. Just like turmeric, this procedure consists of dipping a wet toothbrush into a small amount of the charcoal. After brushing, an individual would follow up with another brushing using their favorite toothpaste. The zinc and oxygen in activated charcoal remove toxins, leading to whiter teeth.

Banana peels

Initially, using banana peels as an at-home teeth whitening option may seem odd. However, rubbing the peel along the teeth and gums actually works. Banana peels contain minerals and vitamins that naturally whiten teeth.

Oil pulling

The name of this teeth whitening solution sounds a little frightening. However, for people who want brighter teeth, it works wonders. Apparently, swishing coconut oil inside the mouth whitens teeth and eliminates harmful bacteria. While not scientifically proven, some people believe oil pulling also treats bad breath and tooth decay.

Get the white teeth you have always wanted

With at-home teeth whitening procedures that work, there is no reason to hide your smile. Remember, these are not overnight fixes. It takes consistency and time to see a difference. If you try one or more of these but still want whiter teeth, talk to your dentist. Call our office to get started and to ask any questions you may have about teeth whitening.
