You may know that Invisalign® is different than traditional braces, but you may not know all the reasons why. Both Invisalign and traditional braces straighten your teeth and correct other issues, but in very different ways. For many, Invisalign aligners are a great choice to straighten the teeth without visible brackets and wires. There are many other reasons why Invisalign is more convenient. Here are a few reasons why you may prefer to try Invisalign instead of traditional braces.
Fewer parts with Invisalign
Patients love Invisalign because it is so easy to use. The dentist uses a program to digitally map the patient’s teeth. Using a modeling program, the dentist creates a series of trays. Some patients do need a few tooth-colored attachments to help hold the Invisalign trays in place, but many do not. There are no wires, rubber bands, brackets, or springs like traditional braces use. Patients and dentists appreciate the simplicity of the Invisalign design.
Straightening teeth with plastic can work
Invisalign aligners are clear plastic trays. The patient wears a set of trays for one to two weeks at a time before changing to the next set. Each set progressively moves the teeth closer to the targeted alignment. The more closely a patient sticks to the instructions for wear, the better the outcome will be. Patients may not need any other devices except for wearing the Invisalign trays to achieve a more beautiful smile. The clear plastic trays are inconspicuous and impossible to see from a distance.
Removable trays are more convenient
Once a dentist installs traditional braces, the patient must wear them until the dentist removes them. It may take several years for braces to align the patient’s teeth. That is a long time to have to wear braces. Invisalign trays easily come out to enable patients to eat, drink, and perform regular oral hygiene. Once the patient finishes, the trays go back in with no fuss. Patients can use a removal tool if it is too difficult to remove the trays with the fingernails.
Cleaner teeth and better gums
Because Invisalign trays are removable, many patients have a much easier time practicing good oral hygiene. Traditional braces with brackets and wires present several difficulties. Many people with traditional braces struggle with getting all the food particles out from in between the teeth and the metal parts. With Invisalign, many patients actually see some improvement with gum and oral health. Invisalign works better if patients brush and floss after every meal, so patients may end the Invisalign journey with whiter teeth and healthy gums. Patients do not have to use special brushes or flossers with Invisalign.
Convenience with Invisalign can lead to success
Sticking to a teeth-straightening regimen can be tough, but you may see more success if you try a more convenient method. Invisalign can be a great way to correct your teeth’s alignment and improve your smile and your oral hygiene. Removable trays and no metal parts make Invisalign a popular choice. Your dentist can go over your alignment issues with you to determine if you would be a good candidate.
